Ankole cattle with long curved horns grazing on green pasture in Uganda

Barbets Dale Farms · Ankole, Uganda

You should know which hill your dinner came from.

We raise Ankole cattle on rotating pasture in south-western Uganda and put the herd code on the pack. Order the cut, read the record, cook it knowing exactly what you bought.

How you get it
2ways

Collect from a branded distribution point in Kampala, or have it delivered cold to your door.

Released this week

Four cuts off the current rotation.

Each one carries the block it grazed and the herd it came from. When a herd is finished, the cut comes off the site until the next rotation.

All ten cuts

Prices are indicative and confirmed at checkout. Weights are dressed weight, vacuum-sealed and blast-chilled.

The ledger

Read the record before you cook it.

Most beef in Kampala arrives with no history at all. Ours arrives with a code stamped on the label. Pick a herd below and you get the same record the ranch keeps — grazing block, days on pasture, how often the herd was moved, and the date it was processed.

Records shown are demonstration data modelled on the ranch's grazing rotation, pending the Phase 1 ranch immersion.

Cattle grazing across open green rangeland in Uganda

Barbets Dale Farms

The grass has to recover, or none of this works.

Barbets Dale is a family ranch inside Uganda's Ankole Ranching Scheme. The herd is moved between grazing blocks on a planned rotation so that no pasture is grazed to the ground — soil holds water, grass comes back deeper, and the land carries more life each season than the last.

It is slower than the alternative. It is also the reason the beef tastes the way it does, and the reason we can tell you where any cut came from.

How the rotation works
  • Regenerative grazing

Mobile Migratory Grazing rebuilds soil and grassland instead of stripping it.

  • Animal welfare

Low-stress handling, open pasture, and no routine growth promoters.

  • Biodiversity & climate

Rested pasture brings back grasses, birds and insects — conservation alongside commercial ranching.

  • Food safety on record

Cold chain from processing to collection point, documented at every handover.

No shop front, on purpose

Three steps from the hill to your kitchen.

We don't run retail outlets. We run a short, cold, accountable line between the ranch and you — which is cheaper for you and better for the beef.

Step one

Order the cut

Choose from the current rotation here, or send the list on WhatsApp if you'd rather talk to a person. Both reach the same order book.

Step two

Pick your point

Collect from a branded distribution point in Kampala at a time you choose, or ask for cold delivery to your address.

Step three

Check the code

Match the herd code on the pack against the ledger on this site. If it doesn't match, it isn't ours.

“Cleaner flavour than what I buy at the counter, and I finally know what I am paying the premium for.”

Before you order

Questions people actually ask.

What does “traceable to the herd” actually mean?

Every pack carries a herd code. Enter it on this site and you get the grazing block the animal came from, how long it spent on pasture, how many times the herd was moved, and the date it was processed. Not a slogan — a record you can check against the label in your hand.

Do you have a shop I can walk into?

No, and that is deliberate. We sell through a small number of branded distribution points in Kampala for collection, or we deliver. Skipping retail overheads is part of how the price works.

Is it grass-fed the whole way, or finished on grain?

The whole way. The cattle live on open pasture from birth and are moved between grazing blocks so the land recovers. There is no feedlot stage and no grain finishing.

How do I pay?

MTN and Airtel Mobile Money, Visa and Mastercard at checkout. If you would rather confirm on WhatsApp and pay on collection, that works too.

How is it kept cold between the ranch and me?

Cuts are vacuum-sealed and blast-chilled after processing, moved in insulated coolers, and held in freezers at the distribution point. Each handover is logged.

Can I order for a restaurant or a shop?

Yes. Wholesale and distribution enquiries go through the contact page — tell us your volume and frequency and we will come back with terms.
